Sisterakas |
This movie review may be late, but I say, better late than
never! At P340+ million, Sisterakas (gay lingo for soul sisters) is the
country's highest-grossing film and it's pretty interesting to note given that
it's been released during the most competitive time in the country's local film
industry--the Metro Manila Film Festival. Seeing its sequel already made me
laugh. Seeing the film made me laugh and laugh.
Sisterakas made me want to remember that Kris Aquino's origin was after all comedy--Pido Pida, itself the highest-grossing film of that time, shattering all box-office records. I was totally having a great time watching the Queen of All-Media showcase herself in a rather overly-designed and overly-done wardrobe.

Then, there's Vice Ganda who acted like Vice Ganda. No acting was really involved in there because he/she was so fine portraying herself. What you saw in Showtime or Gandang Gabi Vice was the same character you will see here. And I find it better because I don't see any character befitting Vice than Vice!
And for the Comedy Queen, I have no qualms. Ai-Ai delas Alas
did it again and her exaggerated expressions and over-emphasis of her rather
"sharp" features make it all hilarious and fun to watch. I fell in
love with her in Tanging Ina, and
over and over with her other film and TV appearances. Her role here made me
really think that it's all worth it to pay a movie a see her.
Sisterakas’ cast is rounded up by a list of some of the
country's brightest and most respected characters: today's hottest loveteam,
Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, drama king Tirso Cruz III and child star
Xyriel Manabat.
What I don't like however, is the plot. It's purely a
copycat of the teleserye Magkaribal. Kris played Angel Aquino's role, Vice
played Gretchen Barretto's, Ai-ai did Bea Alonzo's part. Kat-Niel was the
film's version of Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzales' loveteam, while Robert
Arevalo was portrayed by Tirso Cruz III. The storyline was very much the same
but the saving grace was the overbearing comedic presence of the cast.
